This track was partly written and entirely inspired by the poetic and political musings of Tom Campbell, radical Minnesotan, currently in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is also, it should go without saying, intended not (only) as a mournful lost for a past, waning leftist history, but also as a call for the renewal of radical progressive energies.
lyrics
Goin' down to Houston, check my load
And this rig keeps wastin' all my time
Sit down and wait for a cup of joe
And I think I'll find another line
But them big wheels keep on turnin'
Drivin' home will never be the same
It's all over, Minnesota brother
We're all scattered to the globe's four corners
And it's all dying, Minnesota brother
The farmer-labor dream was a lie
Wait at the airport, I'll pick you up
If the train is runnin' there on time
Been goin' to bat for a friend at work
And some lines keep runnin' through my mind
"I've got a peaceful easy feeling"
If only I could get that way again
Some kind of plane crash shook this town
With the TV showin' it go down
Straight from the island rolls around
Some big-city men who make some vow
That they're gonna keep things here the same as
They've been for a hundred years or more
